BE NKY Growth Partnership Director of Business Retention Angie Mulberry is celebrating five years at BE NKY. Continue reading to find out more about why she loves her job!

What do you enjoy about Business Retention & Expansion?

I like to make connections and build relationships, and that is what my role is all about. I always say I have the best job at BE NKY. I have very broad interests and get to work with companies across all industry sectors, seeing what’s made in Northern Kentucky and how it’s made. These companies produce such awesome, unique products and I’m often amazed at their creativity.

I am exposed to smart, passionate leaders whose insight and knowledge I greatly value. I get to see up close all the great things we are accomplishing in Northern Kentucky and learn lots of company “fun facts,” such as 3 million Airheads are made each day at Perfetti Van Melle! I have been able to get to know Northern Kentucky and its identity better and understand what makes our region special.

What led you to BE NKY?

I’ve lived in Northern Kentucky my whole life and I loved the idea of improving the place I call home and enhancing the amazing assets we already have.

I was hired in 2019 as a project manager, and my first big project was DAV’s national headquarters in Erlanger. Not only was this project creating a new state-of-the art facility for a company that helps our nation’s veterans, but I also had a personal connection to DAV. My grandmother retired from the company after working there for 25 years. Every time I drive past the building, I’m proud to know I helped it come to fruition.

What is your favorite accomplishment during your time at BE NKY?

A “win” in this role is when a company needs help and they come directly to me, knowing BE NKY has the resources to help. I’ve helped companies such as FEAM AERO and The Kroger Company receive funding for employee training through the Bluegrass State Skills Corporation. For companies that need support, even just making them aware of the resource and the application process is very important.

I enjoy aiding companies in understanding all the options available to them and bringing value to their business so they can grow in Northern Kentucky. I feel I have done my job when I’ve made the connection between a company and the resources they need for success.

What are your goals for the future?

I would love for our BR&E program to be “best in class” and a model for others. I want to continue to evolve the program and tailor it to support the individual needs of our diverse business base.

What is your favorite BE NKY memory?

I enjoy our small-company atmosphere and I don’t think we are just colleagues here, but friends, too. We do so many fun things as a team, it’s hard to pick a favorite.

I enjoy our DAV walks, holiday parties, and impromptu happy hours. We are all committed to supporting each other and have each other’s best interests at heart. I love that we are a fierce group with high standards, and passionate about the work we do.
