Three leaders from the Northern Kentucky community have joined the BE NKY Growth Partnership Board of Directors.

Northern Kentucky University (NKU) President Cady Short-Thompson was appointed to a three-year term by Campbell County Judge/Executive Steve Pendery and the Campbell County Fiscal Court.

Short-Thompson was selected as the seventh president of NKU in 2023. Prior to this role, she most recently served as the CEO and Executive Director of Breakthrough Cincinnati, a non-profit focused on educational equity.

She has a long history in higher education, having served as Provost and Professor at Hope College, Dean of the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College, and professor of communication and department chair at NKU.

“I love Northern Kentucky and am honored to serve our region in another capacity as a member of the BE NKY board,” said Short-Thompson. “NKU has a great community partner in BE NKY, and I look forward to opportunities for collaboration and success for both organizations.”

Florence Mayor Julie Metzger Aubuchon was appointed by Boone County Judge/Executive Gary Moore and will serve a one-year term. She replaces Covington Mayor Joe Meyer who completed his one-year term.

Aubuchon previously served on Florence City Council for more than 20 years and held the position of vice mayor. She is a board-certified optometrist, past president of the Kentucky Optometric Association, and past chair of the Northern Kentucky Health Department.

“I am thankful to Judge/Executive Moore for choosing me to serve on the BE NKY Board of Directors,” said Aubuchon. “I am proud to represent the City of Florence in the wider Northern Kentucky community and excited to do my part in furthering our region’s economic development efforts.”

SWECO President Brian Carr was also appointed to a three-year term by Judge/Executive Moore and the Boone County Fiscal Court. BE NKY Board Vice Chair Carey Sanders was also reappointed to another three-year term.

“I am thrilled to welcome Cady, Julie, and Brian to the board and for Carey to continue serving as vice chair,” said BE NKY Board Chair Jim Dressman. “Their expertise will be invaluable to the continued pursuit of our mission of opportunity and prosperity for all Northern Kentuckians.”

We thank Keating Muething & Klekamp PLL Partner James Parsons for his six years of service on the board. The Board of Directors Nominating Committee will choose his replacement.

We also congratulate Lally Pipe & Tube Vice President John Mocker on his retirement and thank him for his time serving on the BE NKY board.

BE NKY is governed by a 23-member board of directors, comprised of business and community leaders, who are unpaid volunteers.

Since its founding in 1987 (as Northern Kentucky Tri-ED), BE NKY has led successful relocation or expansion efforts for 781 business projects, representing more than 75,569 primary industry jobs created with a capital investment of nearly $9.7 billion.
