The field of health informatics combines skills in information technology, project management, and data analytics with knowledge of the healthcare industry. It’s all about big data, and how it is empowering decision-making for improved individual and population health through the expanding size and scope of healthcare data via analysis, processing, and presentation, in addition to the operational, legal, and financial aspects of the healthcare industry.
Education
With IT-related graduates from three local universities doubling and the NKU Institute for Health Innovation right here in NKY, we are well-positioned for leadership in the field of informatics. There are 25 four-year colleges/universities and 11 community and technical colleges located about 75 miles from Northern Kentucky. In addition, regional universities are also important producers of Life Sciences talent. In 2019, the University of Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky University, and Miami University collectively awarded 3,800 health professional degrees.
