Research Analyst

This position supports that mission by providing insightful data analysis that helps us to better support our existing businesses, our community partners, and companies looking to make a new home in Northern Kentucky.

Under the supervision of the Research Director, the Research Analyst is responsible for conducting industry and economic research, helping manage BE NKY’s Data-Informed Community Decision-Making initiative through technical assistance including maintaining and interpreting data, and supporting the overall economic development operations of the organization.

This position will provide BE NKY with robust data support, but will also proactively share trends in demographics, economics, real estate, and business, equipping BE NKY staff with the latest information to assist clients and communities. As needed, this position will also work with outside partners such as REDI Cincinnati, Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development, partner organizations, local communities, and external firms.

Essential Functions and Duties

1. Effectively leverage data resources to conduct primary and secondary research and tailor the results to a diverse audience of stakeholders, both internally and externally.
2. Oversee and coordinate the collection, input, and presentation of data to support the mission and strategic objectives of BE NKY, including analyzing demographic and economic trends impacting Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati.
3. Manage the Northern Kentucky Atlas, an open-source web-based data visualization tool as part of BE NKY’s five-year Data-Informed Community Decision-Making initiative.
4. Conduct industry research focused on maintaining and developing BE NKY’s competitiveness in its target industry clusters. Track, update, and maintain the data provided on BE NKY’s website, including industry sector sheets and marketing materials.
5. Stay current on factors that influence corporate site selection decisions by monitoring local, regional, national, and international economic, business, and government news and trends.
6. Work with staff across the organization to perform research aimed at promoting the region and responding to economic development leads/projects.
7. Assist in the development of responses to consultant and company-generated Requests for Information (RFIs) through the preparation of presentation-quality, client-specific data and ad hoc information on the regional labor market in support of the site location opportunity.
8. Enhance BE NKY data tracking and visualization capabilities through extracting and transforming data to/from internal and external databases.
9. Implement organizational processes that ensure BE NKY maintains high standards of data quality, completeness, and compliance.
10. Maintain up-to-date skills and knowledge in data collection methods (qualitative and quantitative), research design methodology, and statistical techniques.
11. Represent BE NKY at community events, Board and Investor meetings, roundtable discussions, etc.

10. Display a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
11. Willingness to gradually develop public-speaking skills through presentations at in-person and virtual meetings (like a BE NKY Board meeting) and events.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, real estate, data analytics, geography, library science, or related field from an accredited college or university
2. At least two years of directly applicable experience is preferred, although demonstrated academic experience that meets the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
3. Ability to navigate, interpret and extract data from Federal sources, such as the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Census Bureau and Bureau of Economic Analysis.
4. Familiarity with labor market software (e.g. JobsEQ or Lightcast), data visualization tools (PowerBI, Tableau or similar programs), Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of ArcGIS Pro, Business Analyst and Salesforce is a plus.
5. Must have a high level of curiosity, willingness to learn new skills, and be capable of taking direction while also working independently.
6. Must have excellent written communication, oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
7. Must be creative in locating data sources and combining multiple data sources to provide complete and comparable information.
8. Must have strong organization skills and attention to detail.
9. Must be a self-starter, motivated, and results oriented.
10. Must have the ability to travel locally as required. Working nights may be required for specific events or projects. Professionalism, exceptional client service, collaboration and confidentiality are expected.
